Language-Specific Mappings from Semantics to Syntax

چکیده
We. present a study of the mappings from semantic content to syntactic expression with the aim of isolating the precise locus and role of pragmatic information in the generation process, l~om a corpus of English, French, and Portuguese instructions for consumer products, we demonstrate the range of expressions of two semantic relations, GENEI~ATION and ENABLEMENT (Goldman, 1970) in each language, and show how the available choices are constrained syntactically, semantically, and pragmatically. The study reveals how multilingum NLG can be informed by languagespecific principles for syntactic choice.

Anatomy of Annotation Schemes: Mapping to GrAF
In this paper, we apply the annotation scheme design methodology defined in (Bunt, 2010) and demonstrate its use for generating a mapping from an existing annotation scheme to a representation in GrAF format. The most important features of this methodology are (1) the distinction of the abstract and concrete syntax of an annotation language; (2) the specification of a formal semantics for the a...
متن کاملDynamic NLP : A model for language bootstrapping and lifelong learning
Though the end-objective of NLP is to relate to human tasks, almost all its energy is lavished on syntax. Semantics is injected later via semantic lexicons like wordnet, or by learning distributional semantics. The models for both syntax and semantics are static often learned offline from large tagged corpora or seed wordsets. In contrast, human adults dynamically update both syntactic and sema...
متن کاملVisual Semantics - Or: What You See is What You Compute
We introduce visual graphs as an intermediate representation between concrete visual syntax and abstract graph syntax. In a visual graph some nodes are shown as geometric figures, and some edges are represented by geometric relationships between these figures. By carefully designing visual graphs and corresponding mappings to abstract syntax graphs, semantics definitions can, at least partially...
متن کاملDeclarative Semantics in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey
One of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. In an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. For the procedural semantics, we can write a ...
متن کاملFormalization of QVT-Relations: OCL-based Static Semantics and Alloy-based Validation
The OMG QVT standard aims at consolidating and simplifying the model transformation landscape by offering three domain-specific languages (Relations, Operational Mappings, and Core) inspired in the declarative and imperative paradigms. We focus on QVT-Relations, which allows declaring a transformation as a set of relations that should hold between concrete models. The standard states the wellfo...
